
CMETB Announces Appointment of Principal of Monaghan Community Special School
Cavan and Monaghan Education and Training Board (CMETB) is pleased to announce the appointment of Belinda Walters as the first-ever Principal of Monaghan Community Special School.
Originally from Co. Donegal, Ms. Walters brings extensive experience in special education and a deep commitment to inclusive learning. Her appointment marks an exciting step forward for the new special school.
Ms. Walters holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Early Childhood Studies and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from Queen’s University Belfast. She further advanced her expertise with a Master of Education in Inclusion and Special Educational Needs from the University of Birmingham, specialising in Autism and Social, Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties.
Her career includes a range of significant roles: she has worked as a Primary Teacher in Special Classes for Autism and Speech and Language, a Specialist Teacher for Autism, and an Advisory Teacher for Autism across both primary and post-primary settings. Belinda has also served in a leadership role on the Learning Support and Assessment team at Middletown Centre for Autism where she delivered learning support and assessment services across the island of Ireland.
Throughout her career Ms. Walters has developed and implemented robust systems to manage educational services effectively, while building strong working relationships with key stakeholders including the Department of Education, NCSE, and NEPS. Her leadership has consistently driven positive outcomes and fostered a collaborative approach to service delivery.
As Principal of Monaghan Community Special School, Ms. Walters will bring her vision for a holistic and inclusive educational environment, one where every student can thrive and feel a true sense of belonging.

Monaghan Community Special School will open in Castleblayney, and CMETB is currently in the process of recruiting teaching and support staff for the school.
