CMETB Hosts Successful Apprenticeship Networking Event
Cavan and Monaghan Education and Training Board (CMETB) successfully hosted its Apprenticeship Networking Event on Thursday, 15 May at the Errigal Country House Hotel, Cootehill.
Held on a sunny evening, the event saw a strong and diverse turnout, with attendees ranging from school leavers to adults exploring a career change. The event provided a valuable platform for individuals to discover the wide range of apprenticeship opportunities available.
CMETB’s apprenticeship team was on hand to offer advice and information, guiding participants through the various steps involved in pursuing an apprenticeship.
More than 30 employers from multiple industries attended, including GEA Refrigeration, Wright Quarry Products, Combilift, Obelisk, Callaghan Electrical, Iarnród Éireann, Amazon and KBG Accountants. Employers showcased a mix of traditional craft apprenticeships as well as opportunities in emerging fields such as Civil Engineering, Telecommunications and Data Networking, Commis Chef, Hairdressing, and Accounting Technician.
Sinead McKenna, Training Services Manager at CMETB, highlighted the value of apprenticeships as a career path. “Apprenticeships in Ireland offer a high-quality, practical route to a successful career,” she said. “They combine hands-on experience with formal learning, allowing individuals to earn while they learn and gain industry-recognised qualifications. Whether you’re just leaving school or looking to reskill, apprenticeships provide a direct pathway to skilled, rewarding employment.”
Attendees were also able to meet directly with potential employers, learn about current vacancies, and explore future prospects across a broad range of sectors. In addition, representatives from CMETB’s wider Training Services—including Evening Course Provision, Traineeships, SCLP, Skills to Advance and Adult Education – were available to provide information on further education and upskilling options.
The event was widely regarded as a resounding success, with positive feedback from attendees and employers alike. It showcased CMETB’s commitment to supporting learners and meeting the evolving skills needs of local industry.
