CMETB Hosts Ethos Day to Celebrate ETB Week

A selection of CMETB schools gathered at Breifne College on March 25 for a special Ethos event as part of ETB Week.

ETB Week is a nationwide initiative organised by Education and Training Boards Ireland (ETBI) to recognise and promote the values that unite ETB schools. A total of 11 schools participated in the event, including Breifne College, Ballybay Community College, Beech Hill College, Castleblayney College, Coláiste Dún an Rí, Coláiste Oiriall, Inver College, Largy College, St Mogue’s College, St. Bricin’s College, and Virginia College.

The theme of the day was “Care” – one of the core values of the ETB ethos. All ETB schools share a common ethos built on the principles of Care, Community, Excellence in Education, Equality, and Respect.

Students engaged in a range of interactive workshops focused on Art, Sport, Movement, Textiles, and Creative Thinking. These workshops were facilitated by Planet Youth, an initiative dedicated to promoting student well-being and positive youth development.

Speaking about the event, Siobhán Sheerin, CMETB’s Ethos Coordinator, said:
“This Ethos Day was a fantastic opportunity for students to experience the values that make ETB schools unique. By coming together, they not only learned new skills but also built strong connections that reflect our commitment to care, community, and inclusion.”

The event highlighted CMETB’s commitment to providing an inclusive and dynamic learning environment, where care is central to student well-being and personal growth. By fostering kindness, support, and mutual respect, the day reinforced the importance of looking out for one another—not just within schools, but in the wider community as well.
