Department of Education Approves Grant for the Provision of Additional Accommodation at Breifne College, Cavan.

Cavan and Monaghan Education and Training Board (CMETB) is delighted to announce that the Minister for Education, Norma Foley T.D. has approved an all in grant for the provision of additional accommodation at Breifne College, Cavan.

 

Mr. John Kearney, Chief Executive, Cavan and Monaghan Education and Training Board, said:

“This multi-million capital investment is fantastic news for Breifne College and Cavan Town, coming into line completely with CMETB’s ambition of delivering world-class education facilities for the Cavan- Monaghan region. This announcement follows on from the excellent Leaving Certificate results this year and reaffirms CMETB and Breifne College’s focus on STEAM subjects of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Maths is rightful recognition of the excellent teaching and learning occurring at the school.”

Cllr. Colm Carthy, Chairperson of Cavan and Monaghan Education and Training Board stated:

I want to welcome the news that Breifne College has been approved for additional classrooms. This is not only good news for Cavan Town, it is a great development for the entire Cavan & Monaghan Education & Training Board. Continued increase in enrolment throughout CMETB shows the model of education excellence is attracting more and more young people.

The extension to Breifne College includes for seven Special Education classrooms and two base rooms. It also includes science labs, technology and engineering suites as well as art and design classes. It will also include four general classrooms. All of these are needed to ensure the continued growth of Breifne College.

I want to commend the staff and students of the school for their continued hard work and dedication; I want to also thank the Board and Executive of CMETB for bringing this extension to fruition.’

Cllr. Carmel Brady, Chairperson of Breifne College and Deputy Chairperson of Cavan and Monaghan Education and Training also said ‘I am delighted with the news of this funding announcement for Breifne College which will serve to further strengthen the outstanding teaching and learning underway in the college.’

Principal of Breifne College, Mr. John Crotty also welcomed the announcement, commenting: ‘The entire school community is thoroughly delighted with the news, and I welcome the Minister’s announcement of funding for the additional accommodation. This confirmation signals an exciting phase in the school’s continual growth. It is also a recognition of the work of students, parents and teachers in providing a positive learning experience for the entire school community.’

CMETB will now immediately progress this project by appointing a Design Team to design and tender the project and to oversee the construction.

-2 Engineering Rooms

-1 Art Room

-1 Home Economics Room

-3 Science Labs and Preparation Area

-1 Graphics Room

-1 Textiles Room

-7 SET Rooms

-2 SEN Base

-GP/ Dining
